Metallurg Magnitogorsk @ Avangard Omsk

Great rivalry game and the chance to see Jaromir Jagr in action. This game would be especially interesting for New York Rangers fans as they get to see Jagr vs. a team the Rangers will soon face in the Victoria Cup. This is also Jaromir Jagr’s home debut since Avangard’s first 3 games were on the road.

When do you expect to have a new hockey Coach?
    What country is he from?
How many games has Omsk played so far?
    How many wins?
How many games during the season?
How many teams qualify for the playoffs?
Playoff games are the best of how many?
    Thank you Rudi

The new coach is already in Omsk.

He’s Canadian. His name is Wayne Fleming and he left his job as an assistant coach at Calgary Flames to become Avangard’s new head coach.

Avangard have played 12 games so far.

They have won 7 games. They got off to a terrible start, which is why they fired their coach, but have now won 6 straight games zooming up the table into the 1st place in their division and 2nd place in the entire KHL (3rd on points).

The regular season is 54 games long.

The sixteen top-ranked teams will receive playoffs berths. The division winners are seeded 1 through 4, based on their ranking relative to one another (like in the NHL), and the other twelve are seeded 5 through 16 based on ranking, regardless of their division. The top seed plays the sixteenth seed, the second plays the fifteenth, and so on.

The first two playoff rounds will be best-of-five series, and the final two rounds will be best-of-seven series.
